The ESC is the student body that represent economics students at Stockholm University. Each semester we seek to help over 1000 students taking courses at the department of economics.

EVENTS

ESC INVESTMENT CHAMPIONSHIOP

Started in winter 2023, the ESC Investment Championship is an annual investment competition designed to allow economics students to experiment with investment strategies in a simulated financial market.

The first edition of the ESC Investment Championship was hosted in December 2023 using the MarketWatch stock market simulator.

    ECONINSIGHT

    Originally intended as a one-time event for alumni to provide career insights to students, this event has become an annual tradition, scheduled each year around March, just before the second application deadline for the master’s program in economics. The event seeks to help current students decide whether pursuing a master’s degree is the right choice for them.

    EcononExplor

    A new event designed to encourage students starting their bachelor program in economics to explore the campus, make new connections, and get acquainted with other organizations such as SUS, the Social Sciences Association, and SSIF.During a two week periods, students, either individually or in pairs, will explore the university to find and solve "economic problems" placed around the campus. The student or students who manage to find and solve the most of these problems will be rewarded with course literature worth 2400 SEK.

    The ESC, in collaboration with the Department of Economics organizes cross-programme activities with specially invited guests. The activities consist of short lectures and can, for example, highlight current topics from an economics perspective, career stories or what it is like to work as an economist.

    STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES
    Commitment: 25 Minutes Per Month
    The ESC is made up of students who are themselves taking courses at the Department of Economics. Having a representative in each class allows us to gather input firsthand. Although the level of commitment might make this position seem less important than others, nothing could be further from the truth. Student representatives act as the eyes and ears of the course and are fundamental to implementing our 'boots on the ground' strategy.Bachelor representative

    DESCRIPTION
    As member of the macro group your task will be to draw a link between the macro courses given at the economics department and in which industry they are most applicable. You will also be tasked with contacting organizations related to the respective subjects.

    DESCRIPTION
    As president, you will be expected to plan, organize, and ensure the smooth operation of the student council. You will address a wide range of issues and challenges, as well as serve as the council’s figurehead.
    The role of president carries the greatest responsibility and workload within the ESC. You will act as the main driving force behind the council's success. Nonetheless, it is also the most rewarding role, offering the opportunity to connect with a diverse range of individuals, both within SU and beyond, as well as gaining experience from the challenges you will face.Would you like to learn how to shape and lead an organization, implement a vision, or harness your entrepreneurial drive? Then this is the role for you!


    VOLUNTEERING TENURE: 2 semesters


    QUALIFICATIONS: Although prior experience within the council is recommended, the primary qualification is a strong drive to achieve results. Prior leadership is often responsible for sharing the information necessary that will ensure a smooth start to your tenure.

    DESCRIPTION
    Shares the leadership of the council with the president. The main organizational tasks are divided between the president and vice president. This role is perfect for those who would like to lead the council in the future but feel that they need more experience first.
    VOLUNTEERING TENURE: 2 semesters

    ESC ADMIN

    TASKS
    Organizes meetings, manages administrative duties like record-keeping and correspondence, and supports the council's operations, all while serving as a liaison between council, students, and SU bodies such as SUS and the department of economics. You will also be in charge of updating the ESC website.
    SKILLS DEVELOPED
    Volunteering as an administrator provides hands-on experience in organizational management, including tasks such as meeting coordination, while also fostering communication, and problem-solving within a collaborative team environment.

    VOLUNTEERING TENURE: 1 semester


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience in Google Drive and Microsoft Office.
    • Some Experience in website building.
    • Knowledge in Swedish is a must.

    TASKS
    You will be responsible for gathering input from other student representatives, either via Zoom calls or through other means, and submitting the report to the Department of Economics. The Head of Student Representation is typically given priority for the position of DOE representative, second only to the president.
    SKILLS DEVELOPED
    Volunteering as Head of Student Representation equips you with a well-rounded skill set applicable to various career paths, including leadership, advocacy, event planning, and project management. It also highlights your commitment to the student community and your ability to collaborate with diverse groups.

    TASKS
    RALV stands for “Council for Work Environment and Equal Possibilities” (Swedish: Rådet för arbetsmiljö och lika villkor).
    As a representative in RALV, your role is to represent all students at the department of economics in matters concerning work environment.
    By being a RALV representative you will be involved in the planning and following-up on issues concering work environment such as ventilation, lighting, safety risks, ergonomics, study spaces, etc.

    SKILLS DEVELOPED
    Serving as a RALV representative allows you to develop key skills that are highly valuable for your CV. You'll strengthen your communication and advocacy abilities by representing student concerns on work environment issues like safety, lighting, and ergonomics. This role enhances your leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills as you collaborate with stakeholders to plan and implement improvements.
    Additionally, you'll gain experience in project management, strategic thinking, and balancing diverse needs—all of which demonstrate your ability to manage responsibilities effectively. Highlighting this experience on your CV shows your commitment to equity, attention to detail, and capacity for driving positive change in a professional environment.

    FACULTY REP

    DESCRIPTION
    You will attend monthly meetings organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences (SFR), where you will discuss issues together with representatives from all student and PhD student councils at the Faculty of Social Sciences. You will be responsible for reporting any issues the ESC has faced and act as a figurehead in front of the other student councils. This role opens the door for position at the SFR.

    DESCRIPTION
    One of the most important roles at the ESC, this position represents the ESC at the Department of Economics Board. You will be responsible for presenting and voting on issues faced by economics students and the department as a whole.

    COMPENSATION: 750 SEK per attended meeting

    Note that the ESC has four positions for DOE representatives (2 regular and 2 as alternates). In 2024, we decided to grant teaching assistants 2 positions—1 regular and 1 alternate—as we believe that they deserve a voice and can help us identify issues faced by students.

    TASKS
    Your task is to collect feedback from students in the master's-level course you are taking. This doesn’t mean you need to walk around with a form and actively ask questions; instead, simply keep your ears open to what others are experiencing in the course.
    At the end of each course, the Head of Student Representation or another member of the presidium will hold a short meeting with you to discuss your own and others' thoughts and feedback.VOLUNTEERING TENURE

    TASKS

    Treasurer

    TASKS
    The person responsible for the finances of the student council. Practically this entails applying for project funding, council funding, organizing the student council account (if not held by the president). This semester the treasurer will also take the role of a financier and will be responsible for fundraising efforts.
    SKILLS DEVELOPED
    Working as a treasurer offers insights into the financial aspects of organizational management and provides you with a valuable set of skills and practical experiences.
    These experiences can make a positive impact on your resume and provide you with practical skills that are transferable to various professional settings. The fundraising role, moreover, will be a great way for you to build a network with external organizations and potential future employers as well as way to train your entrepreneurial and communication skills.

    Head of Marketing

    TASKS
    Is in charge of marketing campaigns and well as growing the council’s social media presence.
    SKILLS DEVELOPED
    Volunteering as the head of marketing offers hands-on experience in developing marketing strategies, creating promotional materials, and coordinating outreach efforts to engage the student body, providing opportunities to refine skills in branding, communication, and event promotion. You will also develop skills in social media management.

    PROJECT DEV

    Do you want to work on your entrepreneurial skills without having to participate in the council business? Then project lead is the role for you! Project leads take a hands-off approach to the council’s matters and focus on independent project. These could be anything from activities, “bounties” set by the council, or the recurring projects such as the ESC Career insight and the ESC stock market competition or other independent projects.


    CURRENT PROJECTS
    Project Dev - SU Event planner

    In fall 2024, the ESC discovered a way to use scheduling data to plan for better activties as well as to optimally market on campus. Right now all we have is a rudimentary program, but the idea is turn this into product or service that by the ESC.

    QUALIFICATIONS: The goal of this project is to allow you a way to develop your skills at your own pace. We would however
    • Experienced in Excel (Pivot Tables, Power Query, VBA)
    • Knowledge of Power-Bi is a plus.

    The ESC launches econwork

    2025-02-03:
    The ESC has launched a new initiative called ECONWORK, which seeks to map how the economics education given at SU is used in the workplace and what might be missing. The initiative coincide with the creation of two new comitees, Macro Group and the Micro Group.



    The ESC now has an official website

    2025-01-06:
    The ESC now has an official website, making it one of the first councils at SU to have one. Previously, students and external parties faced challenges in finding information about the ESC—what it is and what it does—without access to the council's internal website on Athena. To address this issue, the council initially launched a new LinkedIn page as a temporary platform while the official website was under development. The council is now happy to announce that the development is complete.



    Bengan7 Wins the 2024 eSc Investment Championship

    With SEK 1 077 083 in profits, bengan7 is 2024s ESC:s Årets Investerare! To say bengan7 had this in the bag is understatement. For the past week, the mysterious investor, whoever she or he may be, has had lead of almost SEK 500 000, finishing 82nd in the overall ranking of Investerar SM. That's a tremendous achievement, congratulations!
